This morning has started on a strange note. AJC paper man - TopicsExpress

This morning has started on a strange note. AJC paper man reported a pregnant homeless woman with a dog wandering around trying to get back to her campsite by the Etowah River. I got in my car and found her just a few yards from my driveway. After cautiously rolling down my window halfway, I asked her if she needed help. She said they had been camping by river and dog had bolted in middle of night; she had gotten lost in the woods trying to get back. Tried calling the significant other but no answer, so I offered to go get her food--she looked pitiful, was scratched up, and appeared to be in pain and a little disoriented. When I returned with some food from McDonalds, I told her I would call the police to come help her. I am now at my house waiting for a deputy and hope whether her story is legit or there is some other need that she will be helped. Thank you very nice 911 dispatcher for taking the information. I realize offering to help anyone these days can be a dangerous proposition, but I think I acted with both compassion and caution.
