This morning in Hebron, Israeli forces fired over 23 tear gas canisters in a little over an hour during confrontations at checkpoint 209 (Qeitun). Israeli border police had already fired one tear gas canister at Palestinian school children, and we witnessed a father running and picking up his daughter amongst the clouds of gas as he accompanied her to school. One Palestinian school boy stood, waiting with us looking close to tears during the onslaught of tear gas that followed. Being late for school is much scarier in Hebron than elsewhere. Educations is regularly disrupted in Hebron, on December 11th, Israeli border policemen fired tear gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets in response to a few children throwing stones towards the checkpoints. Even after classes began, the Israeli military continued to fire tear gas. Two schools closed within a half hour of the start of the school day. Two other schools reported additional problems caused by the actions of the Israeli military.
