This morning is the final day for residents to move out of the Spooner’s Resort in Guerneville. The trailer park on Old Cazadero Road was once a scenic destination for fun at the Russian River, but over the last twenty years has gradually been reduced to squalor. The resort has become notorious for becoming a neighborhood nuisance, involving crime and county violations. Now, Spooner’s is being managed by heirs of the original owners. They have promised positive changes for the park and are committed to being better neighbors. The original trailers have been gutted, dismantled and crushed. Six large-scale dumpsters have been loaded with debris and special attention is being paid to determine the possibility of potentially hazardous materials being on site. As of noon yesterday, there were three residents refusing to vacate the premises. The real estate agent was present at the scene and requested the attorney of record to file detainers on those still there by the close of business. Deputies were on-hand and walked the trailer park with the representative of the estate. Contact was made with two of the three people refusing to vacate, and they were advised of their obligation to depart from the premises. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and the River Community look forward to the new incarnation of the Spooner’s Resort.
