This morning my mind is all over the place. Not that Im a particularly focused person anyway. My internal dialog goes where it will, and theres usually a couple of conversations going on at any given time. Sometimes this is an advantage. I get to listen to both sides of the argument, and I dont have to get personally involved. I accept the idea the voice in my head isnt me, Im the listener. I can choose to react, or I can let it go. Listening after all is passive. I think writing is the act of recording these conversations. I dont feel like Im directing anything, its more like paying attention. I was thinking about this yesterday as I wrote my essay for episode 34 of the BCH. Typically we have a theme or topic were working with for the next show, and this show falls right into that category. The Brown County Hour has been the recipient of much good will in the last several months. Weve gone from not really being sure if anyones listening, to an outpouring of support. Along the way weve accumulated a lot of people and organizations to thank. And, we really are grateful. The next show is a combination of year end wrap up, and a hopeful look ahead. The challenge was to write a thank you note to everyone whos contributed to the show without creating a shopping list. We would like to thank the following people, and then an endless list does not make entertaining listening. Sometimes the words write themselves, and in my view this makes the best writing. Squeezing each word into existence sounds forced and unnatural. One thing is clear about the BCH team, we have too much to talk about. Our meetings could easily be twice as long as they are and we would still only cover half the distance. Fill a room with creative people who genuinely like one another and see what happens. Last night we recorded Ricks and my piece, and then it was a free wheeling conversation covering just about everything. Somewhere in the process theres a reality that were having a great time. In my view this contributes to everything we do, and makes what we do better. I think this is true for a lot of things. We hope to get going on the studio remodel as soon as possible. We have a build it and they will come attitude. As far as the content of the show is concerned, we see no end in sight. We live in an area full of interesting people, and all we have to do is listen. This is what having fun is all about.
