This morning my wife and I played in a Ground Golf Tournament. There were 40 teams of 5 people plus some administrators and people just watching. Altogether there were about 230 people there and I was the only foreigner. My team consisted of myself and four men who play with me during our regular Monday and Thursday practices. People have been telling me that I was very good, but I thought that this was just Japanese people being Japanese. I was surprised when I had low score for the group. We played 16 holes and I had a score of 43. My group placed in the top half but they did not publish a list so I am not sure of the actual rank. The prizes were interesting. The people who got a hole-in-one received a package of Saran Wrap and everyone got a participation award of a box of tissues. The best teams that placed fourth through sixth plus the oldest person there, a member of another of the three teams from my neighborhood, each got an extra package of Saran Wrap and another box of tissues. The top three teams got envelops, but I do not know what was in them. Possibly,, it was a small amount of money. We also got a boxed lunch. The funds for all this must have come from the Senior Association, which gets its money from the town and from donations.
