This morning saw the launch of our Christmas Appeal, this week is donor week and we wanted to share a very special story with you. Be a Star for someone like Sophia this Christmas As a special star you could be helping someone like three year old Sophia from Templepatrick who was born five weeks early on 14th July 2011. At five days old little Sophia was diagnosed with the viral form of meningitis. The virus affected her organs including her heart developing Myocarditis with cardiac heart failure, damage to her lungs and also bacterial septicaemia ensued. Sophia was on life support for several weeks and not expected to survive. But, thanks to the wonderful work of the medical staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital’s intensive care unit and the many blood and platelet transfusions she received, this little lively three year old is looking forward to seeing what Santa will bring this Christmas.
