This morning, the DAP FT committee gathered at Bukit Bintang BB - TopicsExpress

This morning, the DAP FT committee gathered at Bukit Bintang BB Plaza to begin our visit to MRT Corp. We had wanted to understand the project better. As a safety requirement, we were asked to wear the industrial helmets and masks and the yellow colour Pua Chu Kangs boots. We then went down to see the tunnel for the MRT train. The MRT Bukit Bintang station will be an underground station. The underground was dusty and dark. There were ponding here and there. It was unpleasant to walk at the underground, especially with the tight industrial helmet and boots. It was an eye-opener for me to see the work condition there. Luckily I wore pants this morning, I just cant imagine if I had worn baju kebaya or tight skirt to the site :-)) After the visit, the MRT engineers briefed us on the MRT route and project. The MRT line is from Sungai Buloh to Kajang with the length of 51km. It aims to ferry 400k passengers a day. The construction cost excluding land acquisition cost, will be RM 23 billion. If you wish to know more about the MRT project, you can get it from its website. If you want to ask my views and feelings after the visit, I would like to share 2 points: 1) This is a very much needed project for the people of Klang Valley. Dr Mahathir should have planned for this project during his time in the 80s. He should not have started the Proton car industry that resulted in Malaysians having to buy expensive cars. 2) I salute the engineers and workers (majority migrant workers) who are involved in building the underground tunnels as the working environment is so unpleasant and tiring. We city folks should be grateful to these migrant workers who have contributed so much to the city’s comfortable environment. Penang government has given awards like PJK to the garbage collection workers in the state. All these workers too deserve appreciation and recognition.
