This morning there was a definite chill in the air as we ventured - TopicsExpress

This morning there was a definite chill in the air as we ventured over to the school playground to explore. The thin layer of frost that had settled over some of the benches took the interest of some as they made marks in it. On our return, the arctic animals made an appearance in this cold weather as they stomped through the shaving foam that had a sprinkling of glitter added to it. One of the children brought in a fossil that they had discoved on Charmouth beach to show us all during Introduction which resulted in some great indepth discussions 😊. The peg boards allowed us to work on those fine motor skills as well as colour recognition and all kinds of maths targets. Outside we made a HUGE assault course using a mix of waffle blocks and balancing beams. We discussed the possible risks involved and suggestions of how we could reduce or overcome them. After lunch the children asked if they could have playdough. I told them that they would have to be in charge of making it and needless to say they werent put off! We came up with a list of the ingredients that were needed and placed them all in the tuff tray with bowls and wooden spoons. I made holes in a container with a lid and filled it with green water. It was quite heavy and the children discussed amongst themselves how much they thought was needed, passing the container around so that they could each add the required amount to their individual piles of ingredients that they had independently shared out amongst themselves. Oil was added to the table in the empty food colouring pot, again with a hole cut into the lids. Painting began on the tables with cotton buds and brushes but before long was spread across the floor as all manner of pictures were painted with many adopting a Frozen theme 😉. The whiteboards were utilized too with one child drawing an amazing picture of a baby with a huge circle around it, telling us This is how big my Mummys tummy was! FANTASTIC! It is so lovely to hear all of the children noticing and suggesting rhyme within their daily routines. A huge thankyou to you as parents as it is clear that you have been working hard to support your children with this at home too☺. Thank you to those of you who have already donated raffle prizes for our Christmas event. Please do keep them coming. We have now secured a Father Christmas for our preschool end of term party! Ho, Ho, Ho!!!! Zoe ☺
