This morning was the memorial service at Bethsalem for our very old and good friend Michael Jones who died on the 20th August 2014. Michael and Barbara Jones came out to Australia from the UK in 1972 and joined the Woodville Ecclesia where Jeff and I were members. We spent many happy hours in their company and their two children, Esther and David were good companions for our children. Barbara was a gentle soul and a magnificent cook, and Michael was a thoughtful and studious man with a very English sense of humor. Michaels humor took us some time to appreciate being very Australian as we were. Esther married John McColl son of Don and Lois McColl who have also been good friends for so many years. Don and Lois looked after Michaels affairs once his growing dementia meant he could no longer look after them himself. Joe and Jenny Spruyt were there today because Barbara and Michael have touched their lives as well. So many people came today to show their love and respect for this lovely man and also to remember his darling wife Barbara who died some years earlier. Peter Williamson gave a summary of Michaels life which was so very interesting to me. Why is it, I thought, that there are so many things we find out about a person, only after they die? Michaels story, told by Peter, showed me that Michael was even more valuable a person than I already knew. Paul Cresswell said a few words as well, because he too had come out from England at the same time as Michael and Barbara and he shared his memories of Michael. I took a photto of John and Esther McColl, Jenny and Joe Spruyt and Don and Lois and Peter Williamson. Goodbye Michael, we do remember you and look forward to seeing you in the very near future in the Kingdom of God soon to be set up on this beautiful earth.
