This morning, we announce that Starbucks has adopted one of the most comprehensive policies for farm animal welfare among major food and beverage retailers. The company, with more than 12,000 outlets in the United States, today committed to use eggs (shell and liquid) from cage-free sources, pork from crate-free operations, milk from cows whose tails are not cut off, and a range of other reforms in all retail outlets throughout North America. This is one of our biggest announcements to date. Given that it comes just days before the new year, it sets a high-water mark for compliance with the new farm animal welfare laws to take effect in California on January 1st. Read the exciting details on today’s blog. (If you go to Starbucks today, tell the baristas how happy you are about the new animal welfare policy.)
