This morning we were almost shocked to see that NBC’s Today show permitted Edward Snowden’s father and his lawyer, Bruce Fein, to tell their side of the story. Both are extremely articulate, and in the narrow space allotted they were able to set the record straight, finding time to denounce in clear and cogent terms the treachery of the media, the Congress, and the president himself. Deservedly, Mike Rogers, Dianne Feinstein, James Clapper, and others came in for a strong rebuke. We are at a loss to explain what made this miracle happen, but one thing we are almost sure: it’s not likely to continue. This duo is far too articulate and dangerous to the official script to be allowed to contradict and eventually demolish the lies defending the surveillance state.
