This morning, while waiting for Skip to finish undergoing a procedure at the Cancer Center in Salina, I heard sleigh bells jingling downstairs in the lobby. Soon, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but--Santa Claus! Handsomely resplendent in a deep ruby-red coat in the fashion of a Germanic St. Nicholas, carrying a carved walking stick and a bag of candy canes, he set about quickly dispersing the candy as well as a cheery word to each and everyone in the waiting room. His eyes really did twinkle, his smile and hearty laugh were returned many times over. All the folks--most, but not all, elderly, were transformed for a few minutes into bright-eyed kids again. What a blessing this kind man was to all he met in that building. For a few moments they were able to forget why they were there and just revel in the beauty of Christmas. I told him I believed he REALLY was Santa! May he be blessed many times over.
