This morning whist getting ready for work and the school run I was - TopicsExpress

This morning whist getting ready for work and the school run I was thinking how can I save some money in order that I can start buying things for Christmas, as its only 9 weeks today? Looking round my bathroom I was immediately struck with a simple solution....stop buying new things and use up things we already have! In the boys bathroom there are numerous duplicated items open at once such as two tubes of toothpaste and 4 different but similar hair styling products. One son has FIVE bottles of aftershave on his windowsill (the other has 3)....WHY? My intention is to try and save money in two ways...stop wasting money by duplicating things and to ensure that when people ask what to buy for my boys they do not buy any more aftershave as although they bottles look very pretty lined up, it is a waste of money (or dead money) that could be more useful spent on things they actually want/need. This using up of things we already have, to try and save money should not merely be left upstairs, I intend to carry out a similar exercise downstairs too, such as how many jars of jam does one family need....just counted two are open and there are FIVE unopened ones in the cupboard which have been purchased on trips to different places....seems to be a recurring number five! On top of that I dare not count the number of relishes and chutneys we have both opened and unopened, as there is a fair number of these too. So my promise to myself is between now and Christmas (plus hopefully continuing the theme into 2015) how much money can I save by merely using the things Ive already bought and paid for that are in my cupboards and bathroom cabinets. I might actually surprise myself. Another thought is having spent the last 10 months losing weight I have no intention of going OTT on fattening food over Christmas and intend to cut out the excessive calorie laden things that often get thrown away when uneaten......again ensuring I save money at the same time. A few treats are acceptable but excessive purchases will be curtailed! Theres probably loads more things we buy for later use and although we will use them in time, we could possibly put the money spent to better use now....can you think of any money saving things you could do to help with Christmas and generally cut your spending?
