This mornings meeting with a client was a success. I didnt think we were going to get the job as the client called last week and spoke briefly about an event that he was organising for 120 youth members of a faith based organisation. We arranged to meet this morning and I was late even after he sent a kind reminder which I requested (I was engrossed in repairing a drum bag and didnt notice the time). At the meeting we spoke again about his vision for the event and about what was needed for a successful outcome. I talked briefly about drum circles, the work with Tugu Drum Circle since 2002, made some suggestions for the event and gave him my fees and costs. There was no haggling on the fees but some on the costs for extra help. The Clients response -We really like the work that you are doing with Tugu Drum Circle and feel that this can apply to our youth. Ive seen your website and like what you are saying. I would like you to inspire and motivate our youth to do similar work by starting community drum circles in their respective communities. I would like you to say to the youth all that you have explained to me today. I can confirm that you are the right person for the job. Please try not to be late for the event. The project entails imparting knowledge of drum circles gained from leading and facilitating Tugu Drum Circle in 2 x 4 hour sessions (2 afternoon sessions, A short space of time.) as well as teaching them a simple rhythm to play along to recorded music for a dinner on the 3rd day of the music based event. As a follow up event a road show will visit these fledgling drum circles, this also involves mentoring 120 youth to start, manage and sustain, for the long term, 12 community drum circles throughout peninsula Malaysia.
