This mosaic lies within the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes, in Tabgha, Israel. It is here that Jesus is said to have preformed the miracle of the loaves and fishes. This event is written in the book of Matthew. The story goes that the disciples were sending the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food. Jesus asked that five loaves and the two fish be brought to him, he shared the food between the disciples and with the remainder, twelve basketfuls of broken pieces, he is said to have fed over five thousand people. Tabgha lies on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee, its name taken either from the Greek Heptapegon meaning seven springs. It was here too that Jesus appeared for the fourth time after his crucifixion.
