This movie, The Railway Man, depicts some of the terrible war crimes committed by the Japanese against allied POWs. The most harrowing scene in the movie is when the central character is waterboarded by the prison guards who try to make him confess to an improbable and imaginary collaboration with the Thai resistance. I wonder how many people know that this atrocity (aka enhanced interrogation technique) was routinely practiced by the CIA just a few years ago, in order to extract confessions that would justify the invasion of Iraq?
