This movie, made in 15 languages including English, by award winning director Sabyasachi Mohapatra, is based on a 15th century Odia work, Laxmi Purana. You will be surprised to find the tone of feminism and stand against untouchability in the work. 20th century feminism will pale in comparison with it. Similarly, the stand against untouchability too is closer to Ambedkarian way of fighting for your rights than the Gandhian way of patronising. Except that Goddess Lakshmi herself leads the fight against the practice, directly confronting her husband and elder brother in law, Lord Jagannath and Lord Balabhadra, who represent the prevailing orthodoxy, established by Brahminism.
