This observation doesnt bode well for the human shaped by the frenetic, over stimulated, and over structured ways of modern culture. But, it obviously was a problem of culture during Pascals time as well for him to have said it. All human troubles arise from not being able to sit still in a room alone. ~ Blaise Pascal The room for me would most certainly be an outdoor space. Stillness, silence, and solitude. All three presences and practices we human creatures are desperately in need of. They more than likely arrive in this order: they begin as a practice, and through the practice we come to recognize this stunning reality......they are presences, tangible presences. Healing and reorienting beautiful presences. And with that being true, why wouldnt we want to see them become defining realities of our way of being in the world? Nature and all that is in it, including the non human creatures that live here, seem to live in the mode of stillness, silence, and solitude....well, at least a lot more then humans do. Maybe we ought to pay attention and consider these things? The posture of the statue of St Patrick on Mamean Mountain is so appealing.
