This old house Im redoing was built in 1890. It has a full basement--totally unfinished and a little scary--a tiny entrance hall with no way to put a coat closet and a beautiful front parlor with a bay window. The hall leads straight back to the kitchen which is very small, and at the back there is a butlers pantry with a lot of space for kitchen storage. Ill install new lower cabinets, a new stove and fridge, and use the existing dishwasher. There will be open shelving on the walls and a butcher block counter-table on the facing wall. There is a new half-bath at the back. When you go through the butlers pantry you are at the dining room which has nice windows and a lot of greenery showing. Theres a door to the porch in the dining room. Upstairs there are three bedrooms--one, the one above the parlor, with bay windows, will be my Grandmas Cave where Ill have a tv and a La-Z-Boy, lots of bookshelves and books. There is a hall with a linen closet and a tiny bathroom at the front of the house, obviously it was once a hall room which was the Victorian designation for a room too small for much of anything. The nicer bedroom at the back will be mine--hardly a master, and there is another that will serve as my office/guest room. Off it is a nice porch type room where I am going to have my washer and dryer. Great views from that room--see my cover picture! More details and pix to come as we move forward.
