This one is dedicated to my self appointed guardian angels in human form. If you dislike ruminative, heart felt appreciation, skip this post! My neighbours driver is one of my self appointed guardians. Ever since I moved into this building, he has made it his business to ensure that he finds me reliable, trustworthy drivers. There have been three so far. In the day to day reality of life, this assurance is extremely impactful in context of the welfare and sense of freedom that my 86 year old father and I enjoy. If they are unwell, he volunteers himself. He routinely checks to ensure that all is well and if there is any further way in which he can contribute. He reminds me of another neighbours driver, when I resided in Mumbai. He was so attached to my late husband, that when he was fatally ill, he fasted, prayed, offered to move the cars around, checked daily to see if there was any errand he could run and in general, made his support available in every way he could think of. To the best of my knowledge, we have done absolutely nothing extraordinary to invite this degree of respect and concern. Yes, we have been respectful and genuine in our greetings and general inquiries, as we pass them every day. But the extent of support and regard these people have reciprocated is amazing. While I feel blessed to be the recipient of such caring attention, I have to say I feel they are more blessed than most. Because they have this amazing ability to see people, and to be seen. Beyond all labels, societal expectations and misconceptions, they have been present, thoughtful and responsive. What a gift. May we all be thus blessed. In gratitude.
