This one is for the parent out there .Just read this ....... Tips from Nick Bollettieri on ‘How to be a good tennis parent’: - I think it’s best not to coach your child – let someone else do that, and just be a parent. “Remember that, for the last hundreds of thousands of years, the role of a parent has just been to be a parent. It’s very difficult if you try to be a parent-coach. What about the other members of the family? What about your job? Being a parent-coach today isn’t easy. There have been successful cases of parents coaching their kids, but overall it doesn’t pay dividends. It takes away from the rest of the family. If there’s a choice, and there always is, don’t coach your child. It’s good for a parent to know about the game, but being a coach and a parent is not a good idea. I don’t think a parent should ever coach a child other than to encourage them to play. By being a coach, you’re jeopardising the relationship between a parent and a child. And you’re also taking away from the welfare of the entire family.” - If you want to be involved, go to watch, or play with them. - If you do decide to coach your child, appreciate that it will be difficult for your child to disagree with you. ”You’re putting your son or daughter in such a difficult position, as they might feel as though they can’t disagree with you. So don’t say, ‘I’m your mummy’ or ‘I’m your daddy’. That’s a tough thing because most of us have been brought up to obey mothers and fathers. When you disagree, you can strain the blood relationship between parent and child. That’s not easy, baby.” - Even if you were a good player in your time, recognise that tennis has changed. ”It can be difficult when you have one parent who was a darned good tennis player in their time. The way tennis was played in their time, and the way it’s played now, is very different.”
