This one you either love or hate, no grey area. I myself love this movie and watch it whenever I get a chance. It really surprises me that it hasnt found a home on Blu-ray, given that virtually every other eighties horror flick has. For anyone who hasnt seen it, it rings disturbingly true today as it did back in 1979, focusing on the horrific results of toxic dumping and its effect on the local ecosystem. Stephen King dubbed it a guilty pleasure, which I agree with. The special effects were choppy, especially the creature itself, which kind of resembled pounded raw meat and ratty fur, but there is a scary charm here. It helps that the legendary director John Frankenheimer helmed this project. Armand Assante puts in a good performance as John Hawkes, a political activist/Native American who is fighting to bring the logging company responsible for the dumping to justice. Robert Freakism Foxworth is compelling as the EPA agent investigating the Indians claims, though sometimes his over the top performance is hilarious. The script is penned by David Seltzer, who wrote the script for The Omen some years before. if you like monster-in-the-woods stories, you may enjoy this nearly forgotten gem.
