This opinion is from Dr. Mehammed Khair Omer. I post on here for more discussion and opinion.......................Though we blame our Tigrinya speaking kinsmen for all the ills of the regime, they are, today, the biggest victims of human trafficking. Through its Tigrinya favoring policies of the regime in the earlier years after independence, it has put them, as a group, into confrontation with the other linguistic groups. It is very important; we differentiate between the regime and our Tigrinya speaking kin...smen. If the regime is our enemy, then we are all in the same pot struggling against it. If we wrongly, consider the Tigrinya speaking group as our enemy, then it means we are against about 50 % of the population and that way we are empowering the regime. But it is also equally important for the Tigrinya speaking group to be very vocal in distancing itself from the policies of the regime, so that the other linguistic groups can clearly note the difference. Another thing we fail to note is that there is also diversity among the Tigrinya speaking in terms of region, in terms of feeling of injustice and in terms of Christian religious denominations. A question that poses to the mind is that why have our 50% Tigrinya kinsmen have failed to manage a state of about 4 – 5 million, while their kinsmen across the border (8%) has been able to manage a state of about 90 million people for more than 20 years. Another question is why have the Tigrinya and Tigrait speaking Semetic groups who make up more than 80 % of the population have failed to agree and manage this small state in a more accommodating way that respect the rights of all groups. Just wondering!!!
