This past Monday night we met for our POPP Teen Peacemaker group in Roswell. The subject was Self-Harm. These young people are so deep, bright and insightful-- they just need a space to open up and dig deep. This week the subject centered around cutting and other destructive habits and behaviors that are prevalent in their schools. I was amazed that every teen, regardless of their color, age, or status had something meaningful to share about this dangerous trend. Then we broke up into pairs with other students that they dont know or look like-- and learned three things: a fascinating fact, something they had in common, and something that was a strength of one and a weakness of the other-- then we came back together and they shared about their partner. It was powerful as they learned to see each other differently and to honor their unique qualities. I guarantee that it is making a difference in the way they see themselves and their classmates this week in their schools...
