This past month I heard three really smart ideas from three very talented people. Each time, right after they finished telling me their great idea, my friends ended the description with: But I dont have follow-through. I want to tell you something: I never had follow-through either. I was that person who had a million great ideas, only to sit on them and see them executed (brilliantly) by someone else. Then Id I lick my wounds and remind myself of how much I lacked follow-through. And then one day, I did have follow-through on something I cared about deeply. It came without any fanfare. It was a mostly unremarkable moment. But that follow-through made me audacious. It led to me daring to take another step, slightly less wobbly. It is true that our lives are a collection of moments and the decisions we make in each of those moments. But it is also true that in some very important ways, each moment represents a new beginning. Maybe you didnt have follow-through. But that was the last moment. This is a new moment. And in this new moment, you have follow-through. And if not in this moment, perhaps the next. What Im saying is: Seize the new beginnings. The barriers, though formidable, are mostly self-imposed.
