This past week was a week of very strong emotion. The joy of seeing my daughter and grandchildren get off their plane from Calgary, was so thrilling. My little Alexis and I caught each others eye and our smiles were beaming. One of the other passengers caught the emotion and said, Oh!, let me get out of your way. Biggest hug ever proceeded. Little did I know how precious the emotion of seeing family get off a plane would be as I did this week. Later in the week, I realized this way beyond my beliefs with the downing of Flight MH17. In a flash 298 people were gone, leaving many at a gate waiting for that emotion hug and greeting, which was now never going to happen. Though, I knew no one on this flight, everyone on it was significant, from the children travelling with their Grandpa, to families going home, a friend of mine who lost a neighbour heading on vacation with his girlfriend, some top AIDS research scientists, teachers, writers, vacationers, and so many children. So many lives just snuffed out. My heart sank as did the rest of the world who have compassion in their heart. This incident, coupled with the sad news out of Airdrie, Alberta, (my daughters town) the loss of two grandparents and their grandson. I was beginning to think, this world is such a mess. How can we fix this..... Well, it wasnt a fix but it was a bit of restoration in ones faith in humanity. I had a client from Gaza, a Palestinian man about the same age as me. He came to Canada to escape and try to make a better life here. What amazed me the most was not his scored level of English that I was testing him for, but it was his story. How he saved an Israeli man from certain death, carrying him to the hospital not knowing who he was, but as he put it, I am human, this man needed my help. He took this man to a Palestinian hospital, where he was cared for and my client would visit him daily. It wasnt until a week later when the man could speak did my client find out he was Israeli. It didnt matter to either one. They were only concerned about each other. The struggles my client and his friend went through over the next while, were unimaginable. The story is lengthy and definitely book material, I shall not expand it on here. To make the story short, it ended up the Israeli man helped the Palestine man get to Canada. Remarkable and unheard of. In this somewhat troubled world we live in, there are little bits of humanity along the way which help us get through. I can only hope we can try to find some kind of peace in this world. As I look at Alexis and Bentley playing this Sunday morning I can only hope for a better world for them, where people take care each other. I can only hope. Wishing you a peaceful day.
