This past weekend I have spent some of the most treasured moments with my Nan. Its amazing the history lessons you get! I learned that Ive got Scottish blood! And I was actually named after my Nan & my Great Grandmother! Despite having Alzheimers & Heart Failure, my Nan - Dorothy Kathleen- remembered some of the most treasured memories we shared - including her walking me down the aisle [when I was 8] of the Cathedral that her and my Pop were Wed in some 60 years ago! There were moment she would forget me, but there was no denying she remembered her love of chocolate! So much so, she told my Pop off for not bringing any with him - because her lovely friend in blue [that was me], liked it just as much as her and neeeeeeeeeded it! Then there was the strange moment when she declared a stuffed teddy had the most beautiful voice and she sat there cheering on the Teddy to sing Ave Maria - so of course, me being me, picked the teddy up and say Ave Maria for her [even though I hate that song with a passion lol]! My Dad told me hed never heard it sung so beautifully - which is a huge compliment considering Dad is not one for complimenting! The very last moment I spent with my beautiful Nan, we shared was a kiss - where she grabbed me by the cheeks and told me she loved me and would see me later in the afternoon - she couldnt comprehend that I was leaving to return home.... I am so thankful and grateful for each and every one of you who has allowed me to take this time to be with her and the family as her heart [& mind] deteriorates... You will never know how truly thankful I am for those moments.... So, whether she passes today, tomorrow, a week or month from now - I will hold on to the final moments where her last words to me were I love you - see you soon....
