This past weekend we got the chance to catch up with the Keyboardist of Voidance! This is what Andrew Williams had to say when we interviewed him. Enjoy! PTA - If you could switch lives with someone for a day who would it be? Andrew - I would probably have to choose Stephen Hawking cause hes such a brilliant dude. I understand he is disabled but I would love to see what goes on in his mind and his thoughts on the world, universe, and life. PTA - What is your best quality? Andrew - My best quality would probably be that Im very generous. PTA - How did you guys come up with the name of your band? Andrew - We first started off with the band name Moirai but after seeing that another band in California that had the same name we decided to change it. We met up one day to think of names which we all came up with several but nothing seemed to fit our image and style of music. I actually came up with the name Void Ov Existence which we all liked but then our guitarist came up with a short version of the name but still has the same meaning and thats how our band name came to be Voidance. PTA - What is life? Andrew - Life is waking up and living up each day to the best and fullest cause you never know when its going to be your last. PTA - How long have you been growing out your hair? Andrew - Ive been growing out my hair since I first started 5th grade, basically about 9 years is how long Ive been growing it out. I trimmed it only once when I started 7th grade which I regret [laughs] but it was only an inch or two. PTA - Any bad habits? Andrew - I have only a few bad habits from what I notice such as I like chewing gum cause it helps to keep me calm or at least relaxes me when Im uneasy. Another one would be that I mumble a lot from what people tell me. I think Im speaking clear and that they can hear what Im saying but I guess sometimes all they hear is Mumble, Mumble, Mumble [laughs] . Lastly, I probably spend too much money on music which I dont know if thats a good thing or bad thing but still is a habit that I cant resist. PTA - What movie deserves a sequel? Andrew - I think the movie Pacific Rim deserves a sequel which I think they may be working on but I dont know. I like the whole idea of giant robots and monsters fighting it out and also I really liked the CGI computer graphics which is why would love to see a sequel and more CGI battles. PTA - What musician do you admire the most? Andrew - I really admire Tuomas Holopainen who is the Keyboardist for the band called Nightwish. I first heard Nightwish like 6 years ago and what really caught my attention was the fact that they use orchestrations, choirs, horns basically a Symphonic Symphony backed by Heavy Metal music and also the use of a female vocalist. Tuomas Holopainen is the mastermind behind Nightwishs music which has really inspired me and influenced me into buying a keyboard and learning to play. If I hadnt heard Nightwish 6 years ago I probably wouldnt be where I am today, self-taught, and playing keyboard for Voidance. PTA - Advice to youth that want to follow your path? Andrew - Just do what you want to do, create something new, be unique and creative, regardless of what people say. PTA - What is your favorite track off of your first EP, Purgatory? Andrew - My favorite track off Purgatory would probably be the song called Live It Through. Mainly cause its such an upbeat song with those double pedals driving it and I also really love that breakdown in the middle and end of the song. It has been our last song at every show weve played and each time its just full of energy and really gets the crowd pumped from what Ive seen. PTA - What is next for Voidance? Andrew - This year is basically over for Voidance, the Battle for Knotfest was our last show for the year. For the next year well be working on new material and also a successor to our EP, Purgatory. Were all excited to see where Voidance will go in the coming years and in hopes that well be able to reach out to other cities outside of Tucson and Arizona.
