This past weekends Lawrence Welk show was, as is usually the case, insufferable: besides the normal kitschy/cutesy treatment of both set and song, a show billed as a tribute to Herman Mancini played only one Mancini song (Baby Elephant Walk, which they played too fast), and yet it was unable to decide whether it really wanted its theme to be a circus or country western. Two unexpected bright spots, though: the band played a rousing, if abbreviated, rendition of Stars and Stripes Forever, and Myron Floren and a guest accordionist did a blistering duet of Tiger Rag. youtube/watch?v=m6HGM4nG-KU
