This past year has been a very challenging time for Dylan. His walking had in Jan, Feb had deteriorated and his feet had started to pronate. We sought medical opinion here in Ireland and an operation to insert Kaylex screws was recommended. Dylan had this operation in April. He was in a lot of pain after and couldnt put weight on his feet. We went back to the doctor and were recommended to give it time. By August we knew this was not working. We went back to the doctor and were asked to give it more time. We consulted with Dr M.Matthew Dobbs in St. Louis, ( using Facebook and e mail, we are so grateful). something we should have done before agreeing to the op. (Lesson learned) . His advice was he wouldnt have done the operation. We went also to a retired consultant here in Ireland who agreed that it should not have been done to an active child as Dylan was. He said his AFOs were all wrong! We returned to the doctor who performed the surgery and demanded to have the Kaylex screws removed without delay. Dylan had this operation in October. We went to a different clinic for new AFOs. Dylan got these ten days ago and today he is walking like this. We had the emotion of seeing Dylan walk for the first time two years ago. This week it feels like that all over again. We havent seen Dylan walk independently for at least 10 months. In Dylans own words I feel so alive, walking.
