This photo has been circulating and Im just gonna take a brief moment to vent. A LOT of people have posted this with comments about how sad it is and how they wish it still looked like the top photo. I personally am thankful to live in a place with a thriving economy. I am thankful to live in a place where I not only have one job, but I know if I NEEDED another job I could go find one tomorrow. I am thankful to live in a place that has grown exponentially over the years, and continues to grow before my eyes. I am thankful to live in a town where I can take advantage of SO many attractions most people never get to experience one day, and the next day I can go get lost in the beautiful mountains without a trace of the city. I absolutely wish there were more mom and pop businesses, and I realize a lot of the big chains make it hard for the smaller businesses to survive. But I also realize that a lot of these big chains coming in are the reason our economy is as good as it is. The other day I visited The Island and ran into an old friend who now owns a shop there. He is THANKFUL for Margaritaville because their big name brings him business every day in his LOCALLY OWNED shop. Sure, the photo on top looks beautiful. But have you ever visited a town that actually looks like this still? They are poverty stricken typically with very high unemployment rates and hardly any jobs unless you are a farmer of some sort. Why do SO MANY people who live in Townsend, Cosby, Newport, etc. travel to Sevier County to work? There are no jobs where they live! It sure is pretty though...So if you want to see the top photo, get out of this BUBBLE you are in and DRIVE!
