This photo is of daughter Phoebe, and me just past the Col du Clapier (Savine) on our hike this month over the path of the Glorious Return. This photo was taken at the Rifugio Vaccarone, run by a man named Nino who also runs a winter refuge in Angrogna. Nino was very familiar with the Glorious Return path and very helpful with trail suggestions. We did the section from Megeve to Salbertrand. I hope to do the Salbertrand to Bobbio Pellice section next year, and will also try the Pragnins to Megeve section. I need to rent a kayak to paddle across Lake Geneva from Pragnins! My father is helping me with my family history - my grandmother was from Villar Pellice. While hiking from the Col du Clapier on August 16th, we were enveloped in a thick fog and had to pick our way through the crags. It seemed appropriate given the battle of Balsiglia. I told my children about the story of Balsiglia while on this walk through the clouds and steep rock faces.
