This photo was taking in the 1890s in Western NSW, somewhere near Coonamble and is a posed recreation of a recent bora ceremony done for the photographers of Kerry & Co. The images on the ground in front of the men are interesting, we see a kangaroo and two human figures next to it, one with a raging boner. Does this depict human copulation, like an indigenous karma sutra as is so often assumed or does it show two hyper-masculine fighters, in other words a coreeda match associated with the man-making ritual? What do you think?
