This photograph from the ACM collection is of the first patient - TopicsExpress

This photograph from the ACM collection is of the first patient from Anderson hospital being transported by airplane to Augusta, Georgia. The plane is an Alexander Eaglerock, as written on the tail of the aircraft. The first flight of this type of aircraft was in 1925; a total of 893 were built. Between 1928 and 1929, the Alexander Aircraft Company was the largest manufacturer of planes in the world. These bi-planes were popular with trick pilots (also called barnstormers), crop dusters, and even the postal service. The car in the background is a hearse with the McDougald-Bleckley Funeral home written on the side. This funeral home was founded in 1924. Jesse McDougald is standing next to the patient. The name of the patient is unknown, as well as that of the pilot and the woman. The other man in the photograph is W.W. King, who worked at the funeral home and eventually became the manager, renaming it Sullivan-King. Based on this information, the museum can date this photograph, and the event, from between 1925, the date of the first Alexander Eaglerock, and the death of Jesse McDougald in 1930. The landing strip for the airplane would appear to be the earliest Anderson airport which was located on the grounds of the present day Civic Center.
