This plumeria was bought in Maui - in 1997! I only remember the year because Robin McKinleys Deerskin fell into my daughters hands on Maui, and while most of McKs novels are wonderful, this one was NOT for a kid as young as she (but of course the more I felt it wasnt appropriate, the more my daughter dug her heels in and insisted on reading it...). The plumeria started out as a stick that took several years to sprout leaves, and didnt get any further than that. My husband threatened constantly to throw it off the balcony because it never flowered, but I continued to water it and hope. This summer we re-potted it (over my husbands protests and threats). A week or so ago I saw an odd-looking growth - didnt look like leaves. And before I went to work on Sunday I looked at the growth - and there were fuchsia-cokored flowers! I dragged my husband out to the balcony and pointed - after 17 years, my plumeria had bloomed. Con calma y amanecemos...
