This poem comes via Lorraine Diane Coffey ...... I love Mount Morgan. My grandfather was a timber man in the mine, and both my parents were born there, as was I, but grew up in Rockhampton. I wrote this poem after a visit to Ireland to trace our ancestors.. Heartstrings to the Homeland The stack is quiet, The stack is still, The hooter blows no more, Asleep is the town that lives on the hill With gold at its inner core A childhood roam Around those hills With cousins by the score, Mangoes and cow pats, Jacarandas blue blaze, Grans eggs sizzle once more. My ancestors call me Back to the hills, Then back to a far distant shore, The heart of Mount Morgan Beats in me still, As I knock on an Irish door.
