This post is dedicated to 3 very brave and godly brothers in Afghanistan, Pakistan and north India who are facing the icey winds of Babylons cruelty) There is some kind of important lesson hidden in an obscure verse of a Christmas song many of us know..the song is of a good king from old Czechoslovakia, Wenceslas. The song tells of the godly king deciding to go out into the snowy cold soon after Christmas on the feast of Stephen to reach out to the poor. He takes a servant page with him as they walk in the deep snow. The servant is frightened and the king, reflecting the nature of Christ, comforts and emboldens him: Page and monarch, forth they went..forth they went together Sire the night is darker now, and the winds blow colder! Fails, my heart! I know not how I can go much longer! Mark My footsteps, My good page...tred thou in them boldly The symbolism doesnt escape me and speaks like thunder to my heart as of late (In fact, I put this in my recent novel on page 282 as the protagonist of my story was facing great fear in a prison in Tehran, Iran.) This morning at 4:45 I was at the Houston bus station, (since I had driven my brother down there in his car) Waiting for my bus back to Louisiana, there were 3 separate fellows in rags and/or wrapped in a blanket who came to me to beg...And, although statistically, they were likely on the street due to their own bad choices, still my heart was touched by feeling what they must feel, and I thought of that song...and what Christ did for me. Now...read those words of that song again and think how we are being encouraged to follow His steps in the snow, to go out into the highways and hedges and find the lost lambs and invite them to come into the Kings warm palace. BUT: to those brave ones like the three I dedicated this post to, those missionaries willing to go into those cold and cruel places, the howling winds of dire threats, beheadings etc are blowing hard now..Mark His footsteps well...and tred in them boldly. He is walking with us and within us!!
