This post is for Rosanna. The New York Islanders have rekindled memories of the mid-80s dynasty with their remarkable play this season. Now that they have some consistency in net with Jaroslav Halak rediscovering the form he had when he began his career as a back up for the Montreal Canadiens...Halak, amazingly...was the 271st overall draft pick in 2003...he has unquestionably been the Islanders MVP this year. Compiling a 15-6-0 record, with a .916 Save percentage and a 2.38 Goals Against Average with two shutouts...the not yet 30 year old Halak has become a superstar on Long Island. The Islanders, led by the stellar play of All-World centerman John Tavares, along with Kyle Okposo, outstanding 23 year old phenom Brock Nelson, Ryan Strome, Frans Nielsen, key offseason defense acquisitions Nick Leddy and Johnny Boychuk, and Mikhail Grabovski, look poised to make a lot of noise in the postseason, barring injuries. They currently sit second in the Metropolitan Division and tied for third in the Eastern Conference with 40 points. There may still be fifty two games to go...but unless the wheels completely fall off for Halak....this team will be a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the regular season campaign, and a very very tough out in the playoffs.
