This post is for all those folks who are sad about the fact that republicans managed to come out on top in this recent election, and who have posted about it on Facebook. I also find it distressing but I also dont consider democrats winning much of a win either most of the time but its that classic lesser of two evils thing. In any case my question to you, Facebook democrat cheerleader, poster persons is this, did you bother talking to anyone who votes republican this year? I see a lot of people calling republican voters stupid, rednecks etc when that is essentially one of the goals republican strategists have successfully used to win, not only this year but for the last 100+ years. The republicans bait democrats into taking strong stances on emotionally charged social issues which then alienates large groups of people. They love to play up the rural folk against city slickers who are godless heathens, (clearly by their stances on emotional issue x). The democrats only seem to know how to appeal to their NPR listening intellectual brethren which unfortunately for them is not a majority of the country. I blame a lot of this poor tactics and such on democrats often eschewing sports as worthless. In any case, Ive heard people say, well my family always votes republican or because of this or that issue Im voting republican. And the key is they dislike the democrat because of reason x or y and dont really have a strong opinion about the republican candidate because they are masters of fence-sitting these days. And yet, if their democratic counterpart tries to do the same thing they are painted as wishy washy. Anyway, if people would stop being so afraid to talk about politics more people would understand that the national-republicans generally are acting in the interests of the top 3% of income earners and thats about it. Long story short, engage with those who vote republican dont just call them a stupid redneck as if thats going to help. All you democrats who cheerlead each other in your echo chambers and never engage in discussion with others because you think your too smart for the likes of them, I hope you enjoy republican rule because thats what you are going to get.
