This post is going to be a little different than the others. This is an alternative medicine post of sorts from Mom/Dixie. One of my main focuses for myself and my family is that we lead a healthy lifestyle. The shape that takes has been different over the years but theres always been an underlying desire to be as healthy as possible. From the food we eat to the activities we do to how we take care of our bodies. Going into this transplant process with Pierce was no different. I wanted to take the best care of his body as possible and do everything I could to help him through this. One of my greatest frustrations at the beginning was the approved food list for the severe neutropenic/low lactose diet. I strive to feed my family real food that is fresh and unprocessed. The diet Pierce had to follow was anything but. I came to accept it as the way it had to be (with great reluctance and lots of question asking) but we are definitely working our way off of the diet now that Pierce is healing and stronger. As I researched chemotherapy and what it was going to potentially do to Pierces body and how it could make him feel, I came across some great resources focused on using essential oils to help alleviate some symptoms he would possibly have. When we went inpatient, I took peppermint and lavender essential oils with me. Peppermint to help with nausea and bone pain he may experience and lavender to help with restlessness and anxiety. I didnt know much at that point but I figured it was worth a shot. There were several times during our inpatient stay that I used the oils for Pierce. I typically used them with coconut oil and massaged them in but sometimes just put some drops on a cotton ball for the room. The nurses would always comment on them when they came into the room. It was interesting to me the conversations I had with some of the nurses about the use of essential oils. As I read more and learned more about the oils, I decided to go with one particular company, doTerra. Young Living also produces great products, as Im sure there are others, but I elected to move forward with doTerra (primarily because of Brooke and Erin with the Mothers of Boys [MOB] Society and their use of doTerra and testimony). When Pierce and I went outpatient, one of my main goals was to ensure he stayed healthy and for us not to go back inpatient. Based on what I had learned, I purchased OnGuard, doTerras protective blend (to support healthy immune function), and a diffuser. I diffused OnGuard almost every day. I would also put it on Pierces feet at night sometimes for an added boost. There were also times I would diffuse lavendar or some combination of other oils. And, when he had bad bone pain one night, it was back to coconut oil massages with peppermint and lavender oil. Peppermint to help with the pain and lavender to help sooth him. I cannot say for a fact that OnGuard helped with Pierces immune system. I can only say that he never got sick while we were outpatient and we accomplished the goal of not going back inpatient. Well worth the $35 investment in my opinion (plus it smells really good). Im sharing all of this with you because I wanted to share this video with you. I know there are some following this page that are dealing with similar situations to Pierces. I also know we all have health issues to address at times. I was pleased to hear doctors discuss the use of essential oils and doing things on our own to help heal our bodies. I just wanted to share in case it would be helpful to someone following this page. As always, with great appreciation for all of your alls prayers and support through this journey! And, I can assure you I wont keep posting about essential oils on here. I just wanted to share since I think its had a beneficial impact on our lives. Dixie youtu.be/-yBWJldwFas
