This post is long overdue, but I guess its better late than never. I had a copper IUD for a little over 3 years. The failure rate on them is the same as the failure rate of getting your tubes tied. So when I took a pregnancy test back in August, it was really just to put my mind at ease. I was sure it would be negative... And then it wasnt. I took myself to the ER, where they confirmed it with a blood test. Then they did an ultrasound to see if my IUD had migrated, which is often the cause of IUD failure. It was right in place. It just failed. Needless to say I was shocked and spent the first couple days in a complete haze. Im embracing it, but I still have to remind myself that this is really happening. I may have my doubts about what I believe, but I still hold on to the belief that everything happens for a reason. This child has beat crazy odds just by existing, and I believe (s)he is meant to be here and meant to be mine. This baby is unplanned, but not unwanted! Im due April 25th. Stay tuned for a gender announcement in a few weeks!!
