This post is probably going to make some people mad... well if it does then delete me I do not care. I have something to say and I thinks its past time someone SAYS IT! Ok so I have a question for all the Animal Rescues, Crossposters, Shelters and Advocates out there... I keep hearing of owners having to surrender their pets, pets being left at the vets, pets being dropped off in outside pens and getting phone calls and messages myself from owners begging for help and being Told: rescues wont take owner surrenders they say they are concentrating on dogs at high risk in kill shelters and shelters are charging to take owner surrenders or tell the owner they are full. At first I thought that they really could not being telling owners that... Ok damn it I have to say something! ITS TRUE. Rescues and Shelters you already know this though right? What I want to know is WHY?!! Because every single day I hear of and see mainly dogs that are severely neglected and injured from being strays...and emaciated from getting no care and the list goes on... HUGE vet bills once rescues. I am sitting here looking at a vet bill from one of my own previous rescues... Deworming, Demodex mange treatment, Rabies vaccination, regular vaccinations, Fecal examine, Neutering. Health Certificate.... Total: $200 thats not counting boarding nor transport. hmmm ok..,, The thing is wasnt you just offered a healthy Pitbull female just last week that was up to date on all vaccines no known health problems, good with kids and other dogs? Only thing the dog needed was spayed and re-homed? so ummm in a month when that dog is found as a stray because the owner had no other resources and was terrified of taking the dog to the shelter for fear of the dog being put down and dropped the dog off near a home that looked like it might take a dog in... (owner prayed they would) and instead the dog goes hungry, eats all sorts of things, gets worms, is already behind on her shots oh and while she is a stray comes into heat at 9 months old for the first time ever and gets breed by a larger dog ,,, and then she spends a week at animal control and then becomes high risk or code red to be put to sleep... you decide to rescue her. Now HOW THE HELL DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE???!! PLEASE explain that to me!? Maybe some need to re-think that idea of we do not take in surrenders we concentrate on high risk dogs .... THOSE DOGS WERE HIGH RISK they were high risk for what I just described! Now the female that was healthy, good with kids and other dogs is Terrified, no longer trusts humans, is extremely dog aggressive because a male breed her out on the streets in her first heat cycle and was not nice about it... and no longer likes children because those one kids threw rocks at her... and now she is pregnant a baby herself still and has worms from eating whatever she could find out there and is infested with fleas.. has mange and who knows what else.,, and is going to cost you a large vetting bill, boarding fees, transport costs and maybe rehabilitation costs if she can even be rehabbed... well damn ....that male that you got a call about a month ago can never be near other dogs because he was given away in that Craigslist ad that you saw and got removed... because he was free to good home.. and now the dog was fought in a dog fighting ring .. and is EXTREMELY aggressive to other dogs and to think prior to that the dog use to not only like other dogs his best friend was a cat! But you see ... the owner listed the dog for Free praying a good person would adopt their baby... and a lady showed up that seemed so kind and nice... thing is she was putting on a front just to trick them and get their dog knowing they were desperate... and knowing her boyfriend said get that dog... but you blame the owner.....hmmm... but the owner called you first... before putting that add on Craigslist.... Because you know what? I have met alot of people that all but sobbed when they handed their dogs over to me because of many reasons ... and some was because they were moving and had literally waited until they were packed before finally giving up on trying to locate someone whom would adopt their dog... after they looked for a long time for a pet friendly rental... and it ripped their hearts out to hand the leash to me! Gee a month ago that female would have cost you the cost of getting her spayed! So the next time you get a call from an owner that is begging for help do not just assume that when they say I cannot keep her anymore as I am moving and where I am moving I cannot have her... is because they did not look hard enough so you hate that owner... and you get angry because the dog became a stray... and is sick... plus many other issues... maybe you should also look in the mirror and ask yourself why you did not take that dog in when the owner called you sounding like they might cry... begging you for help and you refused them. Think about that the next time...
