This precious documentary film (https://youtube/watch?v=2dz837T5uCU) recorded a group of the executives of Japanese woolens companies’ visit to Palau, Chuuk and Pohnpei by a carco-passenger ship Parao-maru in 1940 during the Japanese colonial period. The footages on those islands include: (1) Palau (2:30-5:05): the South Sea Government’s Palau Branch Government office (current Palau Supreme Court building, 2:43-2:56), the South Sea Government office (3:00-3:15), “abai” in Koror (3:36-40), and tea time with the Commissioner of the South Sea Government and the ship captain on the deck (3:40-). After this, the Commissioner visited Chuuk and Pohnpei, where large welcoming celebrations were held. (2) Chuuk (5:26-7:38): the Chuuk Branch Government office on Tonoas (6:00-6:07), friendship baseball game (6:07-22), and Weno islanders’ dances at a welcoming ceremony on Tonoas (6:38-7:38). (3) Pohnpei (7:50-12:01): the Pohnpei Branch Government office (8:20-38), Sokehs people’ dances at a welcoming ceremony at the Spanish Wall (8:42-10:39), and the Tropical Agriculture Research Center (the former agriculture station “Pwunso”, 10:43-12:01).
