The Blood Type Diet by Peter D’Adamo is not supported by knowledgeable nutritional physicians. Dr. Jonathan Wright, MD, ND (the Godfather of nutritional medicine) completely dismisses it as does Alan Gaby, MD, Dr. Wright’s lecturing and research partner. Here is what is known about the Blood Type Diet’s failings: 1. Blood Type O is probably not the oldest blood type. About six years ago two Japanese geneticists showed that Blood Type A is seemingly older than Type O. This means D’Adamo may be using the wrong diets for both Type O and A. He would have to reverse them - if his theory was even correct, which it is not in my opinion. Blood type simply has no bearing on metabolic efficiency and nutritional needs whatsoever. 2. D’Adamo claims there are hundreds of food lectins. In reality there are only 91. He has done zero clinical research on this topic and the world’s leading lectinologist, Arpad Pustai, MD, has exposed the errors in D’Adamos system here: owenfoundation/Health_Science/Pusztai 3. D’Adamo has revealed no scientific research on his methodology and also has no valid studies on outcomes. He talks a lot of impressive theory but has no proof at all. His so-called work is profoundly flawed and much appears to be seeking not his audiences health but rather his own income. 4. Blood type has no bearing on metabolism whatsoever. All body processes are a function of metabolism. One cannot determine what to eat because of blood type. The only blood type data that I consider of value is from Dr. Laura Power and the data from her patented research project on blood types and food reactions. If you wish to learn more about the food intolerances and allergies associated with blood type then visit her website: biotype.net/diets I do not subscribe to Dr. Power’s blood type diet system however, which is purely conjectural and incorrect in regard to optimizing cellular respiration which is what health, weight loss and muscle gain are all about. Also, nobody is a pure blood type anymore, so the only way to know if you are truly suffering from blood type associated IgG, IgE or T-cell reaction is by blood tests. On the other hand, lectin reactions are indeed very predictable by blood type. However, when a food is cooked it can either de-potentiate the lectins, or potentiate them. Which is which is still not clear to me even after reading all the studies. And it is not clear if the studies were done using cooked or raw foods. To my understanding, they were raw. I have helped many who have tried using the Blood Type Diet and gotten into trouble because of it. It appears to be a healthful diet as people feel better at first. But this is only because they are avoiding the most common allergens and sugar. Anyone will feel better by doing this.
