This reminds me of what I hear a lot in powerlifting and olympic weightlifting. Especially with all of the sponsorships powerlifters have which give less rewards than a Subway card. Nobody gets paid their worth they say...or is that true? The real answer is that nobody is going to hand you money because you think some accomplishment has inherent worth. How hard you work is absolutely meaningless when it comes to business. I think sports like powerlifting and BB can draw people in, but they need people with skills to market and immerse an audience in the culture. From there value can be added to an eager consumer base. But if you just go to the gym, lift weights, repeat, that is great to maximize your performance in the sport, but will do next to nothing for anyone outside of a small hardcore fan base (and that is assuming you are among the absolute top of the sport too). Painfully simply concept that a lot of lifters expecting sponsorships to fall into their lap seem to not quite get.
