The riot was spontaneous after burning of innocent 59 Hindu pilgrims. Modi was a three-day old chief minister of Gujarat and was getting to know the administrative structure. Repeating his name for the riot has become a custom by these biased reporters. 2002 wide-spread riot was controlled in 3 days, and no riot in Gujarat has taken place since then. However, thousands of riots have occurred all over India since then in other states.
