This response by the internet disturbs me. While responding to the SOTU and giving one of best robot impressions Ive ever heard (yes, it was painful to listen to), Jodi Ernst shared about her childhood and economic hardship in rural Iowa. She talked about wearing bread bags over her shoes. And were... making fun of her? Were so out of touch with poverty that anyone trying to identify with it becomes a meme? This goes to show that most Americans today, including myself, dont understand true poverty. Many people throughout the world doesnt have the access to the clean water, refrigeration, food, clothing, and technology that we take for granted. Many people dont have the option of opening their closet and having a choice about what shoes, outfit, or coat they will wear. We demand our fair share, when most of Americans are among the wealthiest 1% in the entire world. When will we stop demanding more, and start realizing what we can give?
