This rioting is not helping. However, if we do nothing, the structures that exist will stay in place. These structures, unseen by most white eyes(either by ignorance or by will), lead to inequities in housing, education, careers, legal proceedings and more. Yes, the country is better off than it was in the past. We may have taken steps toward equality, but we are nowhere near equity. Is it right to riot? No. But I tend to agree with Dr. King Jr. here: . . .it is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. I am willing to have an open, respectful dialogue(in person or online) with anyone on this, because it is necessary. The people in their 20s now are the people who will be in charge in no time at all. Lets discuss how we make our nation a better place, but please check your bias at the keyboard.
