This sat on the 19th my Sqn with be down at Edinburghs Ocean Terminal as part of the Army Reserve recruitment drive. There is lots to be gained from joining the Army Reserve such as traveling the world, gaining valuable new skills, meeting new people, gaining new qualifications and at the same time you get paid for doing it in your spare time. Its one evening a week and every second weekend (sat/sun) which works out to be 5 days a month or 6 if you start on a friday night. So when you think about it, its a decent deal! As a new entry solider youll earn £36.03 per day, which after 6 days, works out to be before tax, £216.18, take the tax off (at base rate 20%, second income) and you get £172.95 and thats in training once fully trained your pay rises to £44.61 per day and to work out the same, £267.66, which after tax in your pocket is £214.33, Each year your pay rises too so youll earn more as you gain more experience and also once you gain extra qualifications you will get a pay rise too. At the end of each year after passing all your military annual tests you get a tax free bounty on top of your pay which is £428 year 1 rising to £1691 after 5 years, so that could be money towards a holiday, car insurance, anything! If you dont drive we will put you through your car licence to get you on the road as one of our key skills is driving, its a 5 day intensive course, which would normally cost you roughly £700-£900.......we will put you through that for free and pay you too, after that its your LGV licence which is any ridged truck on the road (C, C1), normal cost of that is £1300+, again youll be put through it and paid. quids in really! Travel the world and get paid at the same time, Iv trained in Canada, Germany and Cyprus just to name a few. Its a great chance to do things others dont. Also while your there you can take part in adventure training out of uniform and relax. There are chances all the time to get away for a few weeks or months at a time all over the world working with our regular counter parts so if its something you want to do then there always the chance there. Not only training but Deploying on operations too, wev had guys in the Sqn deploy to Iraq, Afghanistan, Northern Ireland and past operations. So there is a wealth of experience within the Sqn and we can answer any questions you may have about the process. So if your interested or just want to come and see what we do then please come along. We will have some different bits of kit and equipment that we use along with us so you can see some of it up close and even try it out. If not just come along and say hey! Please support us and if you know anyone who is interested get them to pop down or leave a comment! Hope to see you there! cheers!
