This seems like an ideal solution to me. Traffic has been wonderfully light during complete closure, though it would be selfish of me to want that much longer at cost of such daily commuting grief to others. How typically foot-dragging of the Council to grizzle and sulk over an initiative which obviously was not their idea, and shows up their complacency. Now it is rationing by price, something we seem likely to be faced with more widely for road use at least until mineral oil finally prices itself right out of reach. So far, I have not noticed a return to previous heavy traffic but maybe habits will revert as knowledge of the toll road spreads and people get used to the basic idea of paying per journey like a bus fare. The news item also points out it is the first new toll road in a hundred years so its also real time history being made right on my doorstep. The text shows this is a considerable business investment with no certainty it will pay back if the Council gets it ruddy finger out and fixes the main road soonest, which might be stung into doing by the bad publicity. Also having built the toll road, if Council mirages up some legal excuse to close that, the builder could also thus face a crushing loss. So fair play to him for having the balls of steel to do it. Any reward is deserved. https://uk.finance.yahoo/news/man-makes-toll-road-to-get-around-roadworks-105822133.html bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-28610943
